Reykjavík University Center for Research on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

CRIE was founded in 2004 by Rögnvaldur J. Sæmundsson around an ambitious new project that formed the foundation for research that continues to this day. Starting with a sample of 65 new technology-based firms in Iceland, a remarkable panel data set was built by surveying the same firms year after year for 11 years as well as adding newly founded firms. In the final year of data collection, almost 200 firms were surveyed.

The Entrepreneurship project was only the first of many research projects that have been started and completed within CRIE. Several of CRIE’s projects have received funding from the European Union or from the Icelandic Research Fund and others have benefited from funding obtained by international research partners.

CRIE is the temporary home of an ever-changing group of PhD students, who have conducted research within innovation, entrepreneurship and related fields.

A summary report of CRIE’s projects and activities through 2024 can be found here.

Marina Candi took over as CRIE’s Director in 2010.
